I remember as a young boy, my mother was out planting and showing us how to plant onions and lettuce. It got me interested and I've been doing it for years now.

Gardening is therapeutic because it helps you forget about the stresses of the day. Just spending half an hour in the vegetable patch can make you forget about everything else.

Yes, gardening kept me reasonably fit. It was a good way to balance out my rugby playing days and it got me away from the rugby world.

During my time, we didn't need psychologists or psychiatrists to talk to. We had other interests and activities to help take our minds off the sport.
