Straw Bale Gardening Setting Up The Irrigation

The purpose of using an irrigation system in a straw bale garden is to limit the amount of work required for watering and to ensure that the bales are consistently and evenly watered.

The irrigation system in the straw bale garden is set up using a water timer connected to a faucet. The timer is programmed to run for 10 minutes a day, and the water is delivered through a regular garden hose with an octopus attachment for misting.

The materials needed for the irrigation system include a water timer, a regular garden hose, an irrigation pipe, #9 wire to secure the pipe to the bales, and a few inexpensive parts such as a "T" connector.

The irrigation pipe is laid down on top of the straw bales, and holes can be poked into it using a special tool. It is then secured to the bales using #9 wire as staples.

The irrigation system runs once a day for approximately 15 minutes. This helps saturate the bales and keep the moisture off the leaves, preventing disease and mold.
