I chose two different varieties of roses, one variety of spirea, and one variety of Echinacea for the sunny location in my garden.

The stone pathway was just completed by Pedro and his crew and it's gorgeous. It provides a nice garden walk and I've been looking forward to having it, especially now that we've planted a shade Master honey locust nearby.

The Double Play Gold spirea is a small plant that grows one and a half to two feet tall and wide. It produces vibrant pink blooms in late spring and has chartreuse foliage which maintains its bright color even when it's not blooming. It is resistant to deer, suitable for zones three through eight, and may need pruning immediately after blooming if desired.

What are the characteristics of the Echinacea 'Fuchsia is Bright'?

The Echinacea 'Fuchsia is Bright' blooms with flowers that can reach up to four to four and a half inches in diameter, with cones that have an orangey glow and turn charcoal gray as well as stems. The plant is drought-tolerant and blooms all season, attracting pollinators.

What is your vision for the area where you planted the echinacea and roses?

My vision for the area is to have a drift of taller plants behind the echinacea, such as agastache with purple blooms, and something shorter in front, like perennial geranium. I plan to create a more shaded area with hostas and ferns, and as the area develops, the pathway will be less visible and more shrouded, as it's not a main entrance to the house.
