Plant Care & Gardening : How to Prepare Daylilies for Winter

As long as the leaves are green, leave them as they are. Once the leaves start turning yellow, it's best to cut them off. You can either chop them off at ground level and throw them in the compost pile, or cover them with soil to break down and enrich the soil for next year. If you want to divide daylilies, the Fall is the best time to do so. Just gently pull apart the clumps and replant them with enough space for them to grow next year.
