How to Build a Garden Box for Square Foot Gardening

To make your own garden box, you will need vinyl fencing parts. Cut the fence post into four segments and cut the slats into four-foot sections. Cut holes in the post and slide the slats into those holes.

You will need a sawzall or a circular saw with a metal cutting blade to cut the vinyl fencing parts. You will also need a drill and a jigsaw to make holes and cut the slots.

For the posts, mark the 18-inch sections on the six-foot fence post. For the slats, mark the four-foot sections on the 16-foot slats. Use a straight edge and a pencil to draw the lines. Cut along these lines using a sawzall or a circular saw.

After cutting the posts and slats, make a hole in the posts for the slots to go in. Use a jigsaw to make the cuts for the slots on the sides of the posts. Slide the slats into the slots to assemble the box.

When cutting the vinyl fencing parts, try to make straight lines. If you have a table saw, it will make the cuts easier. Using a metal cutting blade for the sawzall or circular saw can provide better results. Additionally, using a jig saw with a scrolling feature can make cutting corners easier.
