Gardening Tips for May - Square Foot Gardening

After harvesting a square foot, we need to add a handful or trough full of compost blended from at least five different sources.

Leaves, animal manure (from animals that do not eat meat), wood chips, sawdust, bark, and commercially available compost can all be used as sources for compost.

Plants with large fruits such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, and beans can be grown in the summer crop.

A strong, galvanized steel frame can be used to support tomato plants vertically. The frame should be placed on the north side of the garden and nylon netting can be added to provide support for the tomatoes.
