What projects have you been working on in your garden this year?

So far this year, I have widened the main flower path with bricks, moved shrubs while they were still dormant, and started to focus on a color palette of shades of purple, acid green, and orange. I've also worked on making the raised bed gardens feel more like a room by adding a deck and trellises.

What are the new additions you've made to the garden recently?

I've recently installed a new bistro set that's an antique and reveals a beautiful avocado green paint underneath. I've also lined the main flower walk with bricks, half-buried to allow the gate to open in and out.

Can you give an update on the lilies and alliums in your garden?

As of now, about three-fourths of the alliums have started to open, while the lilies and some later-blooming alliums like Ambassador alliums are still yet to bloom.

What is your plan for an additional project at the back of the raised beds?

I want to start a project where I would create a natural hornbeam arch at the back of the raised beds, either by planting four hornbeams in the corners of the bed or two at the very end and training them to be a living arch.

What is your question to other gardeners about hornbeams?

My question to other gardeners who grow hornbeam is whether hornbeam attracts Japanese beetles, as I want to make sure I'm not bringing in a problem by incorporating hornbeams into my garden.

What big changes are planned for the area surrounding the raised beds?

I plan to take out a bit more of the grass on either side of the deck and edge it with Catmint, having been inspired by a hummingbird visiting my garden. I also decided on Catmint because I can take divisions of what I have rather than purchase more shrubs.

What are your long-term plans for the driveway garden?

For the driveway garden, the long-term plan includes planting pink dahlias and focusing on disguising the alley foliage with plants. Over time, the panicle hydrangeas in this area will reach seven to eight feet tall and wide, creating a screen.
