Easy cutting garden flowers to start from seed (and three I don't use for cuts)!

Mother's Day is exhausting for a farmer florist because they have to grow, harvest, arrange, and sell the flowers while also dealing with marketing and sales. Moreover, they are still planting during this time of the year, which adds to the workload.

The best time to direct sow flowers is around Mother's Day, which is considered the unofficial last frost date. This allows the farmer florist to hit the ground running and get seeds in the ground.

Flowers that prefer to be direct sown, meaning they don't like to be started inside, include Zinnia, sunflowers, and hyacinth bean.

Succession plantings of Zinnias are recommended every two to three weeks to extend the bloom time since Zinnias tend to fade out as they produce a lot of blooms and are cut from, leading to less impressive blooms towards the end of the season.

The favorite sunflower varieties for cutting include the Pro Cut varieties like Pro Cut White Light and Pro Cut Plum, as well as Sunflower Steve's varieties.

Hyacinth Bean is used for its beautiful spike flower before it turns into a bean and for its long luscious foliage, which can be used as a filler or spiller effect in arrangements.

Cosmos might not be preferred for cutting because they don't have a great vase life, get very large and can become uncontrollable, and if not deadheaded regularly, can self-seed and become invasive.
