Growing seeds indoors in containers gives you far greater control over the growing environment. It means you can get your plants sowed nice and warm inside and plant them out once the risk of frost is passed.

Lots of seeds prefer to be planted directly into the soil on your plot. Things like carrots, onions, parsnips, and potatoes prefer to be planted in the ground.

The most important thing is to read the packet instructions carefully depending on what you're planting.

Pea seeds need to be between two and a half and five centimeters apart and roughly five centimeters deep.

Cover the seeds lightly with soil and gently firm down with the back of a rake or just use your hand.
