A tour of Everglades by Gardening Australia

Everglades is a 5-hectare National Trust property at Laura in the Blue Mountains, close to Sydney. It is a showcase heritage garden with unique features and incredible views.

Everglades was built in the 1930s by Belgian-born businessman On Ray van de Velde as a weekend retreat.

The garden at Everglades was designed by the legendary Blue Mountains designer, Paul Sorensen.

The garden at Everglades showcases new design ideas of the time, with an emphasis on hard landscape elements and separate garden rooms.

The dry stone walls serve as a testament to the garden's construction in the 1930s and provide drainage and planting opportunities. They are still standing sturdy and straight today.

The Grotto Pool is a naturalistic landscaping masterpiece. It was excavated in the 1930s and filled with rocks and soil. The area is now filled with native vegetation, creating a habitat for endemic species.
